Joseph Headstone - Hermit
Joe, is Delaware (Lenape), now in his seventies his long hair is silvery grey. He has lived outside of human society for most of his life. As young man, he was an idealist. He wanted to make the world a better place, but the more he tried, the more he learned that he couldn't. He grew tired of receiving money because of his race, tired of prejudices, tired of progress, just... tired. It was all just too much, so he left.
Long before The Gloaming, Joseph had tapped into world of the paranormal. There had always been a strangeness to Sterling Forest, perhaps it was the residue of what would come to be, as Joe might put it. Whatever he had learned, it enabled him to live in Sterling Forest, undetected for decades, living off the land. Once in a while people would cross paths with him, if he allowed it. Joe is able to move through the forest like the wind. Even the most experienced woodsman can't compare. He's always possessed an ability to move in and out of the spirit realm, which now, due to the Gloaming has been greatly enhanced. That, and he became a shape-shifter, his animal totem a silver wolf, but he is much more. Joe is actually an aspect, a shape-shifting god, which accounts for him not rejuvenating to a younger man, and his many strange abilities. He lives in those shadowy areas between the natural and unnatural worlds, a hidden cabin deep in the woods, by a lake that is not there. For years has lived among the creatures that now move more freely, and understands them very well.
As a shaman, Joe possesses the ability to cast spells related to the practice, primarily using the burning of tobacco as a primary component. He can obscure trails, commune with nature and the dead, and even catch glimpses of the future. He's a blunt no bullshit kind of guy who can always be counted on for a straight answer. He never fails to help a person in need and has taken it upon himself to ensure the safety of people in Sterling Forest.
Most people have heard of the crazy old hermit of the woods. Some think he's just a legend or a ghost, a few know the truth and have actually met him. He's a character that can help educate others about the Sterling Forest and his theory on what happened to the world from a Native American perspective.
