Windigo / Sasquatch
The Delaware people know "Sasquatch" as Mehuwe (mug-hoo-way), a man-eating giant, like the Windigo of the Ojibway and Cree tribes or the Chenoo of the Mi'kmaq and Maliseet. These are the creatures of Sterling Forest, preternatural beasts which are of the Faerie species. Also known as 'Forest Guardians', these creatures are summoned by the trees to exact swift and sure justice upon trespassers, and essentially they appear in Sterling Forest to protect the caverns and other places that Faerie have claimed.
These creatures are massive, standing nine to ten feet tall and weighing up to nine hundred pounds. Despite their weight, though, they are extremely nimble and quick, able leap great distances and run at incredible speed. They are strong enough to hurl two hundred pound boulders across a football field and are extremely durable. Modern weaponry has no effect on them, and more archaic weapons like knifes or arrows barely penetrate their hairy hides.
They are covered head to toe in shaggy hair, ranging in colour from black to reddish brown. The girth of their bodies and width of their shoulders is far beyond that of human proportions. They walk upright like a human, but have longer arms in comparison to their legs. Their faces are simian-like, with large pointed teeth and red glowing eyes which produce their own light. The nails of their hands can quickly elongate and shrink back to a normal state as if they can retract.
The pungent odour of skunk and rotting meat enshrouds them. It purposely betrays their presence as warning, giving people a chance to clear out of the way. They are omnivorous, and will eat humans if they have the opportunity. Most times, however, like all Faerie they avoid people.
They have a very rudimentary language that consists of clicks, chatter and yelps. Their intelligence would be equal to that of a higher primate. The can make primitive tools if required, but they are basically adapted to their environment and often have little need for them.
As Faerie they have the ability to become unseen by moving between realms and camouflaging themselves with glamour. They can move silent, and possess heightened senses. Their red glowing eyes see exceptionally well in complete darkness, but cannot see perfectly in the bright of day which is why they stick to the shadows.
Trying to physically match one of these creatures will get most people killed, so the best way to combat them is with magic in the form of wards, talisman and spell. They hate fire and can be driven away by it. Water is not a deterrent, they are exceptional swimmers and can breath underwater if they need to.
While these creatures actually have five toes, a magical ability that will obscure their foot prints will sometimes alter the amount of toes, making it appear as if some have only two, three, or sometimes more than five.
