Demons
There are many demons that have no other purpose than to wreak havoc on the living. These are the non-corporeal entities that are unable to fully integrate with a host and function normally in society, searching for souls torture so that they might express their rage, and experience sensation.
Demons are drawn to Gloams because they give them power to possess. They can exist in animals, but their physiological make-up and intelligence offers them little control, and barely any sensations, a numb, powerless existence. Humans are sought after, but not all people are so easy to enter. They require a certain fit, and that person must also be of a certain state of mind that makes them susceptible to the intrusion.
Once in, like a virus, the Demon begins to infect their host. The more disoriented and sickly they become, the more control the Demon takes from them. They exist within, and partly outside of their host, and can only be removed by learning the Demon's name, which pretty much impossible to learn without some major magic, or they can be exorcised. The exorcism whether it be religious or magical of nature will force the Demon's name and allow it to be extracted. Of course, the entity is going to try and take the host down with it, so the ritual becomes a battle of attrition, wearing down the Demon, while doing as little damage to the person as possible. Sometimes it isn't.
People possessed by Demons of this nature are noticeably odd. The entities cannot function normally, nor can they fully control their host. Witnesses will always describe 'possessed people' as erratic, and believe they're either mentally ill or on drugs.
