THE HOVER GRAPHIC
The larger picture that represents your character measures 170 x 320 and the link location can be found under your accounts PERSONAL along with a link for your tracker and your character's age.
FAMILIARIZATION
1. Check the FACE CLAIMS to make sure your desired 'real world persona' is available. We will only make allowances for very photo realistic play-bys and we do not reserve. It's first come, first serve, so please ensure that you check the other applications that have preceded yours because they have claim to their chosen face.
2. Please read the RESTRICTIONS. We do not cater to many of the pop-culture depictions of mythic beings.
We have tried to minimize the required information as much as possible. We can assure you that our setting is pretty typical and a person with a fair knowledge of supernatural settings should be able to trust their intuition. The first thing you should study is the way magic works. Knowing that will ensure your accuracy.
ACCOUNT CREATION
Make an account using either the first or last name of your character. You can change the name later to the full name of the character or we will do it for you. The site will not allow spaces in the Account Username.
Each character will have it's own account. You do not have to make an OOC account.
FACTION
Please replace the world 'Faction' with what ever category you feel your character would fit into, or be placed into by others. The factions are very broad, and just like in real-life, no one is 'Factionless', everyone has an opinion, everyone has a place. Pick a faction and if further explanation is required of where the character stands, add extra details in their Personality.
APPEARANCE
All member characters must have a true humanoid appearance. Our description of a 'humanoid' is having two legs, two arms and a bipedal body. As long as the head is in the right location it can be completely bestial, we'll even accept a tail.
CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
PRETERNATUAL CAUSE
This is a reminder that there can be three types of 'transformed' individuals in this setting. There are those who changed at the moment of the Gloam and are aware of that sudden alteration to their life. These are people who are more engrained in the natural world and learning what it means to be preternatural. There are then those whose entire life changed, who they were ceased to exist and in they changed with the world. For them, they've always been preternatural, living in the shadows. To them the Gloaming is a moment of empowerment, where there abilities that were hindered, have been unleashed. The third type, like the first can occur after the Gloaming event. When people vanish in a 'Missing 411' style, sometimes they returned 'changed', so your character can also be newly experiencing the transformation.
LORE
We don't ask that you become an expert on mythic lore, just that you research the particular type of creature that you are basing your character's race on. Please just don't define them as a Faerie, there are many types, and if they're not a specific kind, we would like to know from which culture you're extrapolating the lore. The Faerie of German lore will differ from those of the Irish, an African lycanthrope will be very different from the English version, and so on.
ABILITIES
You don't have to set finite parameters to all your character's abilities. Give them room to grow, to surprise. We obviously don't want to write from a point of convenience but honestly, in the end, it's about making a story interesting. Rigid limitations can kill the excitement of a scene. Your character sheet is an outline of what they can do, it shouldn't be a spoiler, or spoil the writing. If you want to just copy the abilities from the species write-up you're more than welcome to.
AGE
Enter the age that people would assume your character is, basically how old they 'look'. Your character's actual age can be documented in one the categories on their character sheet.
SUBMISSION
You must use the application template.
Post your character sketch under APPLICATIONS and mark it (WIP) until you are finished. When you are ready to have it reviewed, please remove the WIP and post "Ready for Review" in the thread.
Before your character can be approved you must set your avatar, hover image, and have the link to your application entered in the personal information of your profile so that it appears in your mini-profile where it will appear as 'BIO'.
The amount of detail you wish to include is entirely up to you. Here you have the luxury to have constant access to your character sheet so that you can develop them as they grow through the stories you create. A copy of your original submission will be archived to prevent the loss of any permanent details, but you are allowed to modify and add your version as you see fit.
APPROVAL
Once approved, a copy of your character profile will be placed in the Accept Archival and another in the Character category. The latter can be modified at your leisure with no need to alert anyone of your changes. We only ask not to change anything that is 'set in stone', such as their overall appearance and established history. It's okay to modify abilities if in the beginning of your character's development you discover new ways in which you like to depict them. This is 'story writing' not a game of rigid details.
SHIPPER, DEVELOPMENT, TRACKERS & BACKGROUND INFORMATION can be created in your personal forum. Upon your approval you will be asked what name you would like your DEVELOPMENT FORUM to be called. There you can create threads to help develop and document your characters. Please make sure that you place a link to your character's story tracking thread in your profile where it says 'tracker'.
CHARACTER COUNT
If you're wondering how many characters (Cast, Canon and NPC) you can have, there's no limit. You are welcome to portray as many as you can handle, but we stress that last part. Creating characters can be addicting but making them and bringing them to life are two completely different things.
INACTIVITY OR RETIREMENT
If a character becomes inactive due to the departure of a writer or a writer wishes to retire their character, if said character has become a significant part of the setting we ask that they remain as canon. Thank you.
