FACTION DYNAMICS - Power Struggles
As Gloams empower the preternatural and magic in general they are highly sought after. The existence of Humans within them provides balance, but without them the power of the Gloam would increase exponentially, which is what organizations like Krius want. No one is sure what would happen were a Gloam occupied solely by preternatural beings and it's probably best not to find out. This is essentially the goal of the 'monsters' of our setting. These creatures see Humans as a barrier between them and an all empowering Gloam.
The Black Lake Pack see themselves as nature guardians, in a sense defending the natural order, even though they themselves are anything but. While they are leery of The Coven of Omensvale, they often align with them, when it's in the best interest of Omensvale. Aside from that, they are at odds, each believing the other desires to control the Gloam and use the power for their own selfish ends.
ICOR, is the wild card. Neither the Pack nor the Coven trust them, but in times of need may rely on their science. While ICOR can just as quickly turn on the preternatural they are a defender of the Gloam and can be trusted to battle against the ever present threat of Krius. ICOR's main goal is to preserve the Gloam, to study it, and eventually learn how to control it.
Krius is drawn to Omensvale just like all the other preternaturals and the seek to dominate and corrupt it, possibly to harness it's energies for their own sinister purposes, maybe just because they believe tainting it will assist in poisoning the world. Their intentions are not fully know, but they're never good.
The one faction that stands against all others, even Krius, are the Hunters. Hunters indiscriminately kill preternaturals and so are enemy to everyone. Even though they might assist the community by destroying a Crypt of Vampires, they can just as quickly turn on benevolent preternaturals and kill them just the same. Hunters are aware of the power of Gloams, but it is not common knowledge that Omensvale is one. Those that realize it, know just how important it is to ensure that the area never falls under the control of the preternatural. They are constantly attempting to kill off the protectors, and they keep on failing. There are no Canon Hunters because when they arrive in Omensvale they don't live very long. That, or they are convinced to leave.
The police are faction onto themselves and they fit into this dynamic because The Chief of Police, Brice Kruger is very aware of the supernatural world and works to conceal it. Any preternaturals that unbalance Omensvale are swiftly dealt with by his hand, as well as ICOR's fixer, Lucas Bishop. Writers are urged to use these two characters and use the dynamics of the Omensvale factions to keep your characters in check.
