WELCOME TO THE GLOAMING
We take it that if you're here, you're probably old school and can take or leave the coding of JCINK. Yeah, we don't have the convenience and changing accounts on the fly or slick multi-tabbed shippers, but in the end, isn't it all just about the writing? BBCode offers more than enough control to produce some graphically appealing posters, so what more does a person a need? We're not going to pretend we're anything more than any other writing site, other than stressing that we're not role-playing, so much as collaborative writing and expansive character development.
Here we strive to generate story.
We prefer episodical writing, to generate story as opposed to people writing scenes that go no where.
Above all, we want this to be a safe writing haven for you to express your ideas and build upon this setting; improve it, make it your own. We don't want to impose control over you. We didn't make this site to try and be better than anyone else. We didn't make this site to create an exclusive club house so we can hang out and chat about banal crap, or boss people around. It's a place to escape. To write, and hopefully connect with another writer or two that shares your same love of writing and development. We totally get that you can make one of these sites. Who can't? But most of the time it's a pain in the ass, which is why we seek out what's already made, but often when we do, we're unable to make what we want. Why bother making a writing site if you're not going to let people expand the world and mess up your well rounded border? Obviously people who don't know anything about relinquishing control.
WHAT CAN'T I DO HERE?
It's more appropriate to ask CAN'T rather than CAN based on the rigid rules of many of the other WRITING SITES . The last thing we want to do here is stifle your creativity. The only thing you can't do here is colour outside of established lines, but we're not going to FREAK OUT if you do. Among the worst experiences ANYONE can recount is getting your hand slapped for breaking a rule you were not unaware of, a rule written in an ambiguous fashion, or not stated at all. Honestly, we just want to write. Everything you need to know has been WRITTEN. Don't be afraid to ask for clarification, but really, if it's not written down just assume it's okay. The biggest PAIN IN THE ASS is having to ask permission every goddamn time you want to try something. This isn't school. This isn't an institution. It's a place to write. This is why we simply rely on the rules of common sense.
DISCORD
Not gonna happen. Using a non-affiliated chat-room for discussion outside of the site is counter productive to a forum.
WALKING ON EGG SHELLS?
As long as your story is not going to break the world, it's all good. Now that said, often you have to threaten the world to create a good story and you're completely right! The number one rule here, "If you can't fix it, don't write it." It's that simple. Basically clean up your mess and we're golden. Leave your stuff lying around for others to trip over and you can probably guess what's gonna happen.
A DISTINCTION OF CANON
Probably the dumbest thing that RPG sites do is designate CANON characters that can't be used unless a member solely portrays them. This makes absolutely no sense at all. You have a perfectly good sub-character that could be used by multiple members to develop plots and unite characters, and they can't be used unless someone who's most likely clueless about what's going on turns them into a character? Here ALL CANON ARE AVAILABLE FOR USE, ALL THE TIME. We've learned that canon characters are far more useful in the role of 'non-player-sub-characters' that anyone can use in their story. Need an antagonist you want to be able kill off? Design a sub-character. You can formally create one or just add one to your story and develop them on the go. Stop being a role-player and write!
