ASPECTS
We know them as gods and elementals, "entities created in the mind, acting independently of, and parallel to the consciousness that conceives them." They were crafted long ago when the world was young, born of the human mind and given purpose through their dreams and nightmares. None can say if ever they truly existed, but after the Gloaming, these entities whether true or not exist now.
In their rudimentary form, Aspects are Djinni, Golemn, and Efreeti, elementals that have manifested a consciousness and become entities. Then once worshipped they are further tailored into the shape and form of a god, of course these creatures are hardly all powerful. They more like babies learning to walk as they fumble about trying to make sense of what they are.
After the Gloaming, 'Aspects' came into being across the globe. They either came into being as fully functioning adults or they were attracted to the genetic memory existing within a human which they then amalgamated with. Both forms are equally entertaining to write, the latter providing a more stable back story while the former is basically a blank slate. In either case, the person has no idea who they are. If they are the aspect of the god Thor, that realization is only going to be revealed through habits and ancient memories subtly manifesting in dreams. They have to discover who they are, before they can master what they can do.
Are they really gods? In a word, "no". Gods were not gods, not as people would have perceived them. They are a collection of tales come to life, a storm of myth given a physical form. Their memories are metaphor and the recounts of their deeds through the eyes of their story tellers. They were never a real person.
Prior to THE GLOAMING there were cases of these manifestations but their power was limited to the point that they were unable to manipulate the world around them. These rare cases were often dismissed as haunted dolls or people with schizophrenia. Now that the world has changed these entities are very real and can be very dangerous. Aspects are not just limited to Humans, they can inhabit automatons as well, anything that might be a vessel.
As stated prior, the Aspect can be linked to the genetic collective unconscious, which means that the human's genetics are connected to the mythology from which they come. This basically means that a person whose family line is Chinese is NOT going to become an African deity. In more diverse nations, such as Canada, genetic lines can of course vary greatly based on parentage. "Purity" (which we don't recognize here), has nothing to do with the transformation. Someone who has a 100% Japanese lineage is not going to be "better" than someone with a small percentage of the blood-line. A single drop in a well can transform it's entirety.
A Godly Aspect is loosely bound to attain their true 'Godly Status' as lore defines them, but these are not romantic Hollywood depictions. These are macabre versions, the beings that were also known as 'Demons', when people did not differentiate between the two. Saturn devouring his child, monstrous Titans devastating whole populations for their amusement. The 'aspect' is human torn between who they were and what they are.
Your 'aspect' struggles to maintain their 'human' identity, while balancing it with the grandeur of the stories that define the god that they are. They never did live as a mortal, they were never truly real — they are the manifestation of legend and human imagination. If the god ever completely takes over, the character is essentially dead, and become a non-player character for the site. An living god on Earth that will have to be destroyed, because they're not real and desire only to recreate everything around them in their image... a virus of reality.
These creatures if allowed to amass power could potentially threaten the natural order, but like any other preternatural being, they are helpless against the power of 'human will' and the perception they impose on reality. Agents of ICOR simply hold to the theory that even the most benevolent gods are still taking away 'free will' as they unconsciously extend their's over their worshippers and the environment. A god can best be described as the "anti-life" of our reality.
Transcosmicmanifestion
The manifestation of a godly aspect will not only alter the physical vessel but also the world around them. This effect causes other aspects of the god, elemental or other legendary being, to manifest into their life. Examples would be hammer becoming significant to Thor, the god Vulcan being surrounded by elements of forging and metal work.
Can a person who is the aspect of a god lead a normal life? This is for you to explore. The powers that be which are represented by ICOR will always be of the mind that 'god aspects' are best to be destroyed (and they're right). This is not going to change. The reality is that if a person can maintain control of the god then they're really not a threat, unfortunately they ARE a ticking time bomb as there is no way to remove the aspect. The two are one in the same. Connected until death. It's up to the 'aspect' to maintain their human mind and balance what they are.
Powers and abilities are up to the writer. As usual, you don't want to ever be overly powerful and with a character of this nature, once the power becomes too great they're approaching the realm of a 'non-player-character' that will end up becoming a story antagonist that must be destroyed. Gods don't move backward, only forward. The idea is to find a way for your character to remain in that 'sweet-spot' where they human that they are maintains about 75% of the control over their life, dealing with 25% of the god's influence. Remember, the less power your character has, the more power the person has over the influences of the god's aspect.
Is my character split personality? Heaven's no! If you're imagining your character arguing with a voice in their head, you're barking up on the wrong tree. The 'god' has no real sentience outside of the vessel, and the vessel is the god as much as the human they are. A god is NOT an actual self-aware being like a human, but an idea that possesses life; a form with a singular purpose.
Are all gods greedy for the worship of followers? No. The worship is a form of sustenance, for some, an addiction but the most successful aspects are those who are able to live "normal" lives. The true goal of a godly aspect in this new world is to maintain their anonymity, while at the same time, subtly gaining favour from subtle deeds or misdeeds. This is what most 'aspects' wrestle with, struggling to control the 'ego' of the god. Aspects that go all hell-bent and start up a temple will draw attention and won't last very long in this world. We simply can't allow it.
Is my god immortal? Nope. Your character is very mortal. Perhaps their aging slows, maybe they're more resilient to, if not immune to disease, but they can get hurt and die. It is this perishability and the fact that they can amass power to protect themselves from this that leads most people down the godly path of no return.
